Consistency is highly over rated

Just when I thought I would be in the running for the most inconsistent artist in the country I am now convinced there would be no contest. I would win. As my painter buddy said today "Consistency is highly over rated". We both played happily in the studio all day, experimenting and teasing the acrylics with brushes, scrapers, sponges etc. I picked up a brush (as opposed to a mini roller, knife) for the first time in weeks and these popped out. Both are works in progress. They do not look like my work. BUT just maybe this will be the real me.....

Some interesting quotes about consistency:

CONSISTENCY is contrary to nature, contrary to life. The only completely consistent people are the dead. Aldous Huxley
CONSISTENCY requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago. Bernard Berenson
And my personal favourite:
CONSISTENCY is the last refuge of the unimaginative. Oscar Wilde

This is quite a departure from what I am used to seeing from you. It is almost primitive. It's elementary colours remind me of Gauguin. You have moved from a dreamy - imaginitive landscape (Wolfe Island - which I loved immensely) to an uncluttered, ordered presentation. It lacks the dynamism of your other pieces, yet it has an appealing attraction. A restfulness. Where your other paintings challenged me - these convey an atmosphere of quiet contemplation. The top one reminds me of a walk I took with Asta along the lake behind the KPH - huge oaks - quiet lush green fields - with burning orange maples towering overhead. This is a new approach for you. The hallmark of an artist - always prepared to experiment with a new way of seeing and sensing life.
Kudos!!

Right on Mr. Bear! The top one is the waterfront walkway and the lower one is the maple like poplars on Mowat that lead to Garrigan park. I love both of these spots and hope to do a few more by Sunday.
Thanks for commenting!

hi Hennie,
I love the simple appealing shapes that construct these 2 paintings, obviously drawn from your meanderings amongst the trees...i think you're onto something exciting.
